Mount Meru
The Gateway to Adventure
Mount Meru, standing at 4,566 meters (14,980 feet), is Tanzania’s second-highest peak and an impressive trekking destination for adventurers seeking both challenge and breathtaking scenery. Located just 70 km west of Arusha, Meru serves as a stunning warm-up climb for those preparing to summit Mount Kilimanjaro, while offering its own unique wildlife and landscapes.
Trekking Mount Meru takes you through lush montane forests, home to colobus monkeys, buffalo, and a variety of bird species. The trail gradually ascends to Saddle Hut, which provides panoramic views of Kilimanjaro, the Ngorongoro Crater, and the plains of northern Tanzania. The final stretch to the summit rewards climbers with spectacular vistas of the surrounding mountains, valleys, and savannahs.
Mount Meru is also known for its volcanic features, including a crater, and offers a less-crowded, serene trekking experience compared to Kilimanjaro.
