3-Day Mount Meru Climb (Summit Trek)
The 3-Day Mount Meru Climb is an exciting adventure to the summit of Tanzania’s second-highest mountain, standing tall at 4,566 meters inside Arusha National Park.
Known for its diverse wildlife, lush forests, and dramatic volcanic crater, Mount Meru offers one of Africa’s most scenic climbs and on clear days, you can even see Mount Kilimanjaro from the summit.
This trek is ideal for travelers who want to experience a real mountain climb in less time or prepare for Kilimanjaro. The route passes through rainforest, moorland, and alpine zones, offering a rich mix of scenery and adventure.
3-Day Mount Meru Climb Itinerary
Duration: 3 Days / 2 Nights

Day 1: Arusha – Momella Gate – Miriakamba Hut (2,514m)
After breakfast, you’ll be picked up from your hotel in Arusha and driven to Arusha National Park.
After registration at Momella Gate (1,500m), you’ll begin your climb accompanied by your guide and an armed ranger for wildlife protection.
The trail winds through savanna and montane forest, home to giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, and black-and-white colobus monkeys. You’ll stop for a picnic lunch along the way before arriving at Miriakamba Hut in the late afternoon.
Enjoy dinner and a well-earned rest surrounded by forest sounds.

Day 2: Miriakamba Hut – Saddle Hut (3,570m)
After breakfast, continue your trek through dense forest and giant heathers, with panoramic views of the Meru Crater and the Ash Cone.
This section is steeper, but the reward is incredible — as you reach Saddle Hut, you’ll see the towering Little Meru (3,820m) nearby.
In the afternoon, take an optional acclimatization hike to Little Meru for stunning sunset views of Kilimanjaro and the plains below.

Day 3: Saddle Hut – Socialist Peak (4,566m) – Momella Gate – Arusha
Wake up around midnight for your summit attempt.
You’ll ascend steeply along a narrow ridge, passing Rhin Point (3,800m) and continuing toward Socialist Peak (4,566m) in time for a breathtaking sunrise above Mount Kilimanjaro.
After enjoying the summit views and photos, descend back to Saddle Hut for breakfast, then continue down to Momella Gate, where your driver will meet you for transfer back to Arusha.
