Kitulo National Park

The Garden of God

Perched high on the Kitulo Plateau between the rugged peaks of the Poroto, Kipengere, and Livingstone Mountains, Kitulo National Park is unlike any other park in Tanzania. Known locally as “Bustani ya Mungu”  The Garden of God  this enchanting highland paradise is celebrated for its spectacular wildflower displays, earning it a reputation as one of Africa’s great floral wonders.

Covering about 412 square kilometers, Kitulo is a botanist’s dream, home to over 350 species of plants, including orchids, lilies, irises, and daisies that bloom in dazzling colors across the grasslands between November and April. It’s also a haven for rare birds, butterflies, and mountain reedbuck that roam the rolling meadows.

Unlike most Tanzanian parks that focus on big game, Kitulo offers a serene and refreshing experience for nature lovers, hikers, photographers, and flower enthusiasts.

Best Time To Visit

The best time to visit Kitulo is from November to April, when the flowers are in full bloom and the meadows burst into color. The dry season (May to October) is ideal for hiking and exploring the park’s mountain trails.
