Oldonyo Lengai, meaning “Mountain of God” in Maasai, is Tanzania’s most sacred and unique volcano. Rising to 2,962 meters (9,718 feet) in the northern part of the Rift Valley, it is the world’s only active natrocarbonatite volcano, known for its rare, black volcanic lava and dramatic eruptions.

Best Time To Visit

The best time to trek Oldonyo Lengai is during the dry season (June to October) when the trails are safer and visibility is at its best. Avoid the wet season (November to May) as heavy rains make the volcanic slopes slippery and more challenging.
